What made you decide that you wanted/needed to start a Training Program?
I joined Wild as a personal experiment. Though I wasn’t opposed to losing weight or getting stronger, my goal was to just show up consistently for a year. And on the days I didn’t show up, instead of just quitting all together, to practice self-compassion so that I felt stronger to return the next day.
What do you like best about Wild’s program & having a trainer?
I drank the Christy Protocol kool-aid “burpees are awesome”, “kettlebells make you feel invincible,” “lift heavy.” These are the greatest things! In all seriousness, I had many coaches in high school/college and not many were outstanding. Christy and the rest of the coaches are outstanding.
What is your favorite exercise and why? What is your least favorite and why?
I like squatting with heavy weight, either with kettlebells or using the squat rack. I’m not particularly mobile but focusing on deep squats and I’ve seen tangible evidence of my progress.
What achievements are you most proud of?
Showing up! I started twice a week and have progressed to a point where my wife wonders if I am going too often. Day to day, I am just proud of the micro-achievements, like when I do something today I couldn’t do three months ago. This week it was side planks.
What are some challenges or goals you are currently working on?
I’m working on mental toughness. I know I can hold the plank longer, or go full speed during sits-ups, but sometimes I choose to slow down. I want to increasingly push through the urge to quit.
What advice would you give someone on the fence about joining our program?
I was on the fence about joining. In fact, for over a year I’d walk past the gym wondering what it might be like to workout there. I struggle to start the things I want the most! While I was nervous as hell the first class and physically sick following it, I have since looked forward to every class. Push through the first week and focus on the level of badassery you will feel in the weeks to come.
