We met Gena at the Bay View Bash in 2012, but the timing wasn’t right.  When summer 2013 came around, Gena was ready to get serious with her Wild Workouts and there’s no stopping her now!  She participates in our weight loss challenges and really gives it her all!  Gena has lost over 18 lbs, plus she’s now into running as well!  She’s a full time teacher for MPS, a wife and mother and she still makes time to workout at Wild 2 times a week in addition to our Run Wild Group.  She’s an inspiration here at Wild Workouts!  We asked Gena some questions and here’s what she had to say about her journey here with us so far:

Q:  Do you have a favorite exercise?

A:  I like renegade rows and medicine ball exercises.

Q:  What do you like about it?

A:  Arms! Arms! Arms!  I’ve always had weak upper body.  I can feel the rows working all over – arms, chest, core, even legs!  And with the med balls, the more you bounce, the less you jiggle.

Q:  Least favorite?

Plank walk-ups!  What don’t you like about it?  Arms again–Ha!Ha!  They catch you off guard.  They don’t look that hard, but they’re a killer for me.

Q:  What achievements are you most proud of?

A:  I’ve lost weight, gained strength and feel all-around better.  I stepped on the scale this morning and I’ve lost about 18lbs since the middle of June!  Also, it feels great that I am starting to use heavier weights.  I started off pretty light!

Q:  What do you like most about Wild Workouts and Wellness?

A:  The whole environment.  Everyone is friendly and it’s a really supportive place to work out.  I never feel uncomfortable or embarrassed.  The coaches are all very attentive and know when to push you further and how to help with exercises that you’re having a hard time with.

Q:  What advice would you give to other wild peeps?

A:  Try something new.  I’ve never been a runner, but I decided to join the Run Wild group and it was a blast!  I got to know some other members, challenge myself and have fun, all while improving my speed and form.  I had to laugh because my son would always ask, “Mama, did you win?”  I would just say, “Well, there were a lot of people ahead of me, but I did my best and I ran a little faster than last time.  I’m getting better!  Pretty soon Mama will be running as fast as you!”

Q:  Do you have a favorite song or type of music for working out?

A:  Rock, 80’s

Q:  What are some challenges or goals you are currently working on?

A:  My number one priority right now is to be consistent with getting my workouts in every week.  I’m a teacher and Fall is always crazy for me!  I joined Wild mid-June for the Summer SlimDown and then became a regular member when that was over.  I’ve been really happy with my successes and am committed to sticking with it.  It is a lifestyle change.   I eat healthier, think healthier and act healthier now.   I like the saying “Fit, not skinny.”  That is my ultimate goal!
