Most people will look at the color of my smoothies and grimace. Don’t judge a book by its cover! I love packing my greens into liquid form, and you will too if you do it right.
Here’s a few rules to help you make the perfect green smoothie:
- Plan ahead! If this is your first foray into green smoothies, don’t start by winging it or you’ll be disappointed. I like to use a ratio of 2 cups greens, 2 cups liquid base, 1 cup fruit.
- Blend in stages to avoid “chewing” your smoothie. No one wants to suck up leaves through a straw. Blend your greens and liquid first, then add-in your fruit.
- Freeze your fruit! I see so many recipes using ice… why? Just freeze your fruit instead! In fact, this is how I avoid buying smoothie fruit year-round. I do my fruit picking in the summer and then I freeze them!
- Prep ahead! Many times I will shop and prep individual smoothie serving size portions in small ziploc bags. Then there’s no thinking involved with I go to make my smoothie! I just let it thaw a little over night, dump it in my blender in the morning, and VOILA!
Here are a list of some of my favorite ingredients!
