Ron is our Wednesday 9:30AM Semi-Private group Rockstar! He’s been training with Coach Carla, or “Carla The Crippler” as Ron would call her, and with Coach Amber. Ron has come a LONG way since he started training with Wild Workouts and Wellness. He can now swim a mile, his balance has greatly improved, he’s much stronger, more flexible and he really gives it all he has at each workout! Best of all, since retiring last year, Ron has lost 40lbs! YES, 40 pounds! Amazing! Ron has the best sense of humor that keeps everyone going with his humor in each workout. Ron is also an avid motorcycle rider. Ron wants to continue working on his fitness and enjoy his retirement to the fullest.

We asked Ron some questions and he gave us some answers. Check out what Ron has to say and get ready to be INSPIRED!

Q: Do you have a favorite exercise? What do you like about it? Least favorite and why?

A: My favorite exercise are the Wall Sits. My legs have gotten stronger. I can sit longer than one year ago. Also, upright single arm band row. I can now use all 4 bands together! My least favorite is any exercise where I have to be pushing off of my toes, on the floor planks or push-ups. I have nerve damage in both of my feet and my toes do not bend in that position.

Q: What achievements are you most proud of?

A: I really dread coming in to exercise, especially in winter, but I feel really good afterwards. This past Spring I noticed that I was much stronger for the start of motorcycle season. I had no back, hip or leg pain from “muscling around” my 800lb cycle. Also, summertime and the opening of the pool at Hoyt Park on Memorial Day Weekend. I was able to go 20 lengths without a problem. My goal was to swim one mile (34 lengths) and I made that goal by mid-July. I would do 40 lengths every day and one mile once a week. The last two weeks of summer, I was doing 40-50 lengths every day. Too bad the pool closed on Labor Day.

Q: What do you like most about Wild Workouts and Wellness?

A: Coach Amber and Coach Carla aka “Carla the Crippler” get me to do something new every Wednesday morning that I come in, despite how much I protest at home before coming in. I always feel better afterwards and have noticed improvements in both my strength and balance.

Q: What advice would you give to other Wild Peeps?

A: I have never exercised before, either in high school or after, and doing renovation or yard work does not count. I just worked. My job, before retiring last summer was working at the Transit System for 8.5 hours a day sitting behind 4-5 computer monitors reviewing security video or dispatching with the telephone constantly ringing. I rarely, if ever, had the opportunity to get away from my desk until it was time to go home. Regrettably, I had started smoking around the age of 16, but I did finally quit in January 1994. This upcoming January it will be 20 years smoke free! Basically, if I can start working out for the first time in my life, ANYONE can! All of us have to start from some point and then challenge ourselves when the workouts get easier. Amber and Carla will gladly increase the amount of weight! Plus my wife will not let me make the excuses!

Q: Do you have a favorite song or type of music for working out?

A: My favorite artists are: The Who, Meatloaf, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Eric Clapton, Queen, Lady Gaga (I own 3 of her albums!), and I also like listening to listen to classical music like Mozart and Beethoven as well as 60’s music. I was one of the first winners 8-9 years ago from the WKLH for WKLH’s entire library on the iPod!

Q: What are some of the challenges and goals for yourself right now?

A: To improve my current fitness level over winter so I can easily ride my motorcycle again in the spring (without back pain) and I hope to find an indoor pool to swim in over Fall & Winter. I want to be able to swim as well as I did this summer.

Ron couldn’t believe we picked him for our Client of the Month! Can you believe that!? After reading his accomplishments, you know why we picked him too!

Keep up the outstanding work Ron! We look forward to pushing you harder each workout to make you stronger and reach all of your goals. Wild Workouts and Wellness wouldn’t be as great if it wasn’t for YOU!
