Anna was an easy (and long overdue) choice for July’s Client of the Month. She came to Wild after joining in our Boot Camp and Bend series. She’s seriously impressed us the way she consistently pushes herself, not only in Boot Camp but by amping up her running game too. Most recently Anna tackled her first half marathon, Ragnar Relay and is set to run her first marathon in October.

PLUS, she’s always having FUN doing it! Chances are, she’s tried to teach you how to floss if you’ve worked out next to her.

Congrats Anna! We’re so proud of your accomplishments!

How did you first hear about Wild Workouts & Wellness?
I had seen Wild in the neighborhood and I was curious about it. One day I saw that they were offering a free Boot Camp & Bend class so I signed up with a friend. It was hard! But it was also a lot of fun. The coaches won me over and I signed up for the whole series that night. Each week, I looked forward to working out and after the series, it was an easy decision to join Wild.
Do you have a favorite exercise? What do you like about it?
I like them all and I especially enjoy anything with weights. I love when I can move up to the next one (or when a coach just hands it to you).
Least favorite? What don’t you like about it?
Pop squats! I’m always sore after doing them so that must mean they’re good, right?
What achievements are you most proud of?
This spring I ran my first half marathon after completing a training program with Wild. I’ve never been able to make any kind of improvements as a runner (jogger, really) until getting some professional guidance. The longer runs and pace goals were intimidating on paper and I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to do it. But then I got out there and realized that I could really push myself to meet the goals of each run.
I also completed my first Ragnar with Wild and had such a good time! Whenever I tell someone how fun it was, they look at me like, whaaa? For real – fun! Sign up for one and make some friends for life.
I’m also proud of the everyday things that I can do with greater ease. Extra canoe paddling with a smile on my face. Carrying bundles of firewood around like a boss (thank you suitcase squats and farmer carries!). Finagling my bike in and out of the basement. Riding said bike. Things that used to seem hard and unappealing are now enjoyable and I find myself seeking out physical activities rather than lawn chairs.
What do you like most about Wild Workouts and Wellness?
No matter how I feel when I walk in, I feel awesome when I leave. Sweaty and awesome. Not only do I make myself stronger, I get to hang out with great people. Jokes and high fives and positivity. It always brightens my day.
What advice would you give to other Wild peeps?
Challenge yourself, and get some help to make a plan with goals for each day. Print it and hang it up. It’s helpful to see all those small steps mapped out, and it’s super encouraging to watch them being checked off.
Also, everyone can floss; just keep trying. Get the arm part down first.
Do you have a favorite song or type of music for working out?
90s hip hop and 80s pop. I also like listening to Science Friday and books on tape during slow jogs. That’s right, I called them books on tape.
What are some challenges or goals you are currently working on?
My first marathon! After training for a half marathon this spring and doing Ragnar, I felt ready for another challenge. Plus, with so many fellow Wild peeps signing up, I knew I would have a great support group and lots of people to train with. And some people to celebrate with at the finish line. 🙂
