It’s widely believed that the biggest reason for cold and flu outbreaks during the winter months is because colder temperatures lead to drier air. That dries out nasal passages and without any lubrication, the nose can’t flush out bacteria, resulting in a safe haven for germs.
Saline nasal spray is a simple remedy that will help flush out the mucus and bacteria. Adding moisture to the nasal passages will combat stuffiness, congestion, and increased infection.
Here’s a DIY recipe that will help you ‘spray away’ colds and boost your immunity!
What you’ll need:
Nasal spray bottle or Neti pot
1 cup distilled water
1 tsp Silver Shield
1/8 tsp sea salt
1/8 tsp baking soda
2 drops NSP Breathe Deep essential oil
Combine all the ingredients in a container and shake well until the salt & baking soda are dissolved. Pour the solution into your Neti Pot or nasal spray bottle and use as directed.
The salt and baking soda thin the mucus and clear out irritants. This saline solution gets an extra punch from the addition of the immunity-boosting Silver Shield and a drop of Breathe Deep essential oil. The Breathe Deep blend has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, and helps to calm inflamed nostrils and open the airways.
(Note: since the mucous membrane inside the nose is sensitive, only add a very small amount of essential oil to this solution.)
